Your vehicle's AC and heating system is actually much more complicated than it may seem. It's broken up into two parts (the high and low sides). The high side includes the compressor, which pumps refrigerant throughout the climate control system. The low side includes an expansion valve, which restricts refrigerant flow and lowers the temperature of the refrigerant.
