Axel Knauz moved from Germany at the age of three with his parents and brother. Edwin, his father, was asked by family to help in repairing vehicles at the new Mercedes Benz facility in Lake Forest Illinois. Over the years, Axel grew up and started at the dealership as a car porter. Twenty years later, after proving his repair skills and becoming a Mercedes-Benz factory trained master technician, he was promoted to Service Manager and eventually Service Director over all car lines.After 30 years at the family dealership, Axel decided to open his own auto repair shop.

At Axels we specialize in Classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles on top of the routine maintenance and Performance modifications for most European Imports. Axels Automotive is proudly the Midwest Distributor for Renntech Mercedes. Axels Automotive offers all Rennech products and is the ONLY full on premise tuner for Renntech in the Midwest. We offer the New HHT Handheld tuner. If your vehicle is not covered by the HHT or needs something custom, we can bench flash your ECU and still get your vehicle back to you same day in most cases.
