A car's air conditioning works like any standard air conditioner, but on a much smaller scale. It's important to note that a vehicle's a/c doesn't produce cold air, it removes heat from the air entering its system. The refrigerant in your vehicle alternates between a gaseous and liquid state. When refrigerant in its cool liquid form is exposed to warm air in your vehicle's condenser, it evaporates into a gas and absorbs or removes heat from the surrounding environment.The heated refrigerant then moves to a separate part of the system, where the gas is compressed into liquid by the compressor.

I had a really great experience with The Garage. After having some trouble with a car I bought online and having that company refer me to The Garage for repair, they helped fixed the issue quickly. Like in hours, something the other company could not do after having my car for almost 3 weeks. The service was so good that they won me over and I will be a customer going forward. I would love to give these guys 5 stars because they do good work and it used to be for a decent price even. I've been going there for years and have received fair, honest service. Sometimes the front guy is a little unfriendly. When checkout time comes he lightens up.

Kyle Houston, and the highly trained and knowledgeable team of technicians at The Garage-SF have been providing me with the highest caliber of services (both customer, and technician services) since my very first visit which was when I had my totally inoperable 2009 Pontiac G8 GT transported from Maryland directly to their doorstep in 2018. My car had a plethora of problems due to excessive sun and heat damage (e.g., charging, starting, coolant, and evaporator systems problems; multiple faults stored in ECU; exploded tail lights, and detached trunk spoiler).

You name it, my car had it. The Garage-SF literally resurrected it and I've been coming here for routine maintenance and repair services ever since (most recently on 01/19/2022). The entire staff are professional, friendly, and welcoming. Kyle always patiently and thoroughly explains to me in detail the work that's been done on my car. And if there are services that my car requires but The Garage doesn't provide (e.g., tire replacement, and headliner repair), Kyle has always stirred me in the right direction to a high caliber business that does.

The Garage-SF is honest and trustworthy, and their pricing is fair. I will continue to happily drive the 30 miles from Half Moon Bay to San Francisco to have my car serviced by The Garage-SF for the foreseeable future because I can drive away confidently knowing that I won't have to return until my next maintenance checkup is due. I have been a customer of The Garage for over 20 years, and I have always been a satisfied customer. They are always friendly, fair, on-time and knowledgeable. They, in fact blow away that image of the "untrustworthy car mechanic" by being up-front and honest. I've recommended them more than once, and no one's been dissatisfied. The staff go out of their way to communicate before, during and after. I always pick up my vehicle confident that it's in good working condition. On top of that, the price for maintenance work and/or repairs is fair. I'm not sure what more I might expect. Five Stars as usual.

I don't know how to feel about the Garage. I took my car to My Mechanic on Folsom for last 10 years and was led to the Garage, thinking My Mechanic moved. Anyway, I only came for an oil change. When they called and said it was ready they told me the bill was over $200 because I was due for a 120k service. I was shocked they didn't give me a heads up before doing the work.

I wasn't expecting this at all. They also told me I had some issues with my axle and LCA bushings (work would cost thousands). I saw other reviewers have said they told them about same issues. This made me think they tell everyone this. I got a full report with pictures but have no idea what I'm looking at. Anyway, I felt a couple of red flags and don't like work being done without calling me for approval. Never had that experience at any shop before.

I have taken my car in twice for a problem with my headlight. The staff at The Garage was incredibly helpful and friendly. The second time, the same problem happened again, so it was still under warranty and they repaired it again without a problem. I am very impressed with their customer service.

I'm happy with the service at The Garage. Car maintenance is no cheap picnic and this certainly was true this time. But I needed the work and they did it efficiently, and in a friendly good manner. What was really nice is that after I got my car back it drove beautifully. Have you ever gotten your car back from a maintenance and it ran rougher than when you brought it in? No, not here, not today. I'll be back, thanks to The Garage.

Brought car in for an oil leak. Told me it was probably the valve cover gasket but may have other leaks too. Got car back and was leaking more than when I first dropped it off and now also smoking when I drive it. When I called they told me I'd have to bring it back in. Said they drove it around a lot to make sure it was fixed but obviously this was not true. Why would you fix one leak and not even attempt to find the others? Not bringing car back in.

Very pleasant experience. Fair inspection, no unnecessary repairs and maintenance additions to the service unless explicitly stated by customer. You can trust them to give a fair inspection report and the business even gave me an expected life left out of my wearing brake pads, tires etc and didn't insist of premature replacements. I found them to be very trustworthy, reliable and friendly.

The only concern I have right now is that after my cabin filter service in my last visit, the glove box light wont turn off even after the car was shut down, and all other lights are off. Something might have shorted the glove box light switch, and I'm sure they will take care of this next week when they open for business. I will update the review after the resolution.

Exceptional Service. Today I stopped by to schedule a simple fix with no expectation to get in until later in the week, and staff & mechanic got my car fixed immediately at an exceptional rate. In addition, I was advised what to have examined if a repair is needed again regarding this particular car part/attachment. I am a repeat customer over 5+ years, and scheduling & location is very convenient.

In the past year, they have inspected my car and gave me good rates & time frame on repairs, and explained to me what needed to be done immediately & what could wait regarding keeping my 10+ year old car operating at its best. Thank you!

This has been my go-to auto shop in San Francisco for almost ten years. They have always taken good care of my car, and their knowledge and experience are top notch. They won me over chasing a random check engine light that wouldn't go away that turned out to be a finicky ECU. In their efforts to diagnose the problem, they eliminated every possible area from the fuel system to the valve train and made sure the car was fine before coming to their conclusion. Would trust them with my car over any shop I've used in the past.

I have to send the whole team a big thank you. Everyone was beyond professional but more importantly, exceptionally communicative and refreshingly honest. My 2018 Volvo XC60 was up for regularly scheduled maintenance and after sourcing a handful of absurdly high quotes, I was lucky enough to come across The Garage. They understood my concerns of being surprised by an astronomical bill and talked me through every step of the way.

They addressed the immediate necessary needs - oil change, tire rotation, etc. During their overall assessment, they uncovered an issue with my rear wiper and a full computer diagnostic was recommended. They reached out to get confirmation if I wanted to proceed and I approved. Upon an inconclusive testing result, they refused to charge me. We talked through what they would have to do to identify the problem in the future and they did not pressure me at all to pursue in the immediate. It's beyond refreshing and comforting to find a place that have the customers best interests at heart. You don't find very many places like that these days. Thanks team!

I had the pleasure of working with Alice to replace my car's bumper. She provided excellent service and transparent communication through the entire process. After accepting the quote for the work, I dropped my car off that week and had it back shiny and 100% fixed in just two days. She even de-fogged my headlights, replaced my reverse light that I didn't know was broken, vacuumed and washed my car! I'm very happy with The Garage and will be back for regular maintenance.

I brought in my 98 SN95 because I had a coolant leak and it looked pretty bad from the outside looking in, but Ray and Kyle at The Garage said no problem just bring it on by they ran a diagnostic and found the Bain of my problems and a solution. I'll definitely bring my Mustang back to them for any issue(s) in the future

I have been meaning to write this for too long. Here it is. We started taking our cars to The Garage back in 2013 or 2014, frustrated by the sudden incompetence of our previous mechanic. Happy with their work, we brought three more cars for them to work on over the years. We had the occasional frustrations with them over the years, but they always worked to make things right with us.

However around December of 2019 (I would need to research the exact date) we brought our '04 Lexus SUV for service due to an unusual vibration and sound coming from the front of the car. We picked up the car with a significant bill and left. The sound and vibration persisted, and we took it back. The Garage misdiagnosed the original problem - the transmission was out.

This prompted us to trade the car in, which is what we would have done if the garage hadn't misdiagnosed the problem. I attempted to contact the owner to address the problem, but he never got back to me. Then the Pandemic hit and I had more important things to worry about. However I'm still really upset with the garage about this.

My car started acting up and needed to be towed to The Garage. After a thorough inspection, Kyle contacted me to let me know what the issue was. He explained it and offered two options to fix the car. I felt that I was able to make an informed decision. I'm always happy with the service and will go back if need be.

They've been rip off me I rewrote this make it short. I have a 2009 honda civic with LCA lower ball joint bushing issue. I brought parts of LF lower control arm ball joint and outer tie rod to the "The garage" shop, which the parts honda advised me to replace it. They wanted to inspection.(of course charged fee). and told me my both control arms are bad and inner tie rod is not safe to drive.

The invoice came out $1,674.87 with some discount. So I asked the both lower control arm include the lower ball joints? It will be whole unit. so yes. The tie rod for both inner and outer? or only inner? Whole unit, so all. It's still pricy for me, but I accepted. But they replaced just lower control arms($843) and inner tie rod($700). Also the inner tie rod doesn't look brand new.

They fixed only expensive labor jobs don't really need now. What I really need didn't touched it. And inspection fee. I don't know what tech inspected. Inspected the only parts lots of labor cost? And saying safe to drive? *Someone picked this is Funny. Is that from shop member or family? I just fix that lower ball joint from different shop and paid $120. That what I needed. You guys charged me more than 10 times and promised to fix it. But didn't.

The staff and mechanics at The Garage SF are spectacular. I have been to a few mechanics in the city, and have not had great experiences. The staff here were extremely helpful, and they did everything in their power to diagnose an oil leak in my car effectively and had it fixed within 7 hours! They were incredibly honest, at first glance they notified me that this might be a big and very costly problem, to prepare myself for that.

In the end, they discovered it was a much simpler fix which saved me thousands of dollars. Car troubles are miserable, but the staff at the garage will make it bearable and make you feel at ease!

This place is the best! I went in worried about my check engine light because I need to pass smog to get my registration. I went in the morning and they helped me out right away. They also let me know they are STAR certified for smog and could smog it as soon as the repairs were made. I got a text notification while I was at work letting me know my cars diagnosis- which ended up being a warranty issue. Michael, Joe, and Kyle helped me out and were so friendly and kind!

When I got back to my car there was protective covering on my wheel, floor and stick- which just shows me they also took proper precautions for COVID. Would definitely recommend coming here!

Very responsive, pro, fast and efficient! Covid doesn't change a thing, I had the appointment really quickly and the garage team was able to do my Mazda maintenance in only half a day. So much more efficient than Mazda / royal auto reseller who who take weeks before a spot is available, a good 24hours for the service, and 1.5 the cost of the garage. I highly recommend!

Was having trouble with my Jeep over heating. Being new to the City I did not know of a good trustworthy place to bring it. A couple of friends suggested The Garage. I am glad they did! Setting an appointment on line was easy. Kyle was great to work with as we're the rest of the team. They were able to fix my Jeep, did it in a timely fashion! Kyle stayed in touch the whole time! The price was fair, the bill was easy to read and (new) parts and labor guaranteed for two years! I highly recommended them!

Ladies go here for your auto needs! Not only are the guys HOT! But they are respectful and efficient! Needed my brake light fixed, these guys fixed it no questions asked within 10 minutes. They make sure to research cost to be sure your not over charged. The garage is C L E A N. The office/waiting room has a tv, chairs, coffee, tea and donuts.
