Ray's Automotive Service Center

The moment every driver fears: you turn the key and nothing. Nada. No response. So, someone comes to jump you and still nothing. Alas, it's not a simple dead battery. I called Ray's and they were totally upfront letting me know it would be a week before they could look at the car, unless they had a cancellation. I decided to go ahead. They would also keep the car in the locked back lot for me, so I only had to pay for 1 tow.

Imagine my shock when the lovely clerk called the same day to let me know that they had noticed the window was down, and since there was rain in the forecast, their technician wanted to get the window up. They had a few minutes, and hooked up the car. They were able to run a diagnostic, as well as discover that it was a bad battery. Changed it out for me, and I was lucky to get the car back the same day! The whole experience was very positive.

Ray's Automotive gave me every reason to trust them. Two repairs so far on my 2014 Town and Country. The first was a slipping belt. They replaced just the belt, and told me they did not replace the tensioners as they were not making noise. The bill was a lot less expensive than I expected. They said come back if it makes noise. Well, it soon did make noise.

I figured it was the tensioners. After they test drove it, they quizzed me about the circumstances when I heard the noise. They asked me if I thought maybe the noise came from the back. I realized I really couldn't tell where the noise occurred. They said they found brake problems in the back. One caliper was frozen, and the pads were worn down to 2mm.

The other side was ok, with 8mm of the original 10mm remaining. They said I just needed to replace the pads and caliper on one side, the rotor was ok, and since it's on the rear, I didn't need to touch the other side. Compare this to a recent repair on my 2013 Accord by another shop. Exactly the same problem. The other shop told me I needed to replace pads, calipers, and rotors on both sides. The bill was almost triple what Ray's charged me for the Town and Country. I'm impressed. Honest and competent. Just what I'm looking for.

Very fair price and transparent on all their prices. They never push for any work, but will give you quotes on possible work. I brought my own oil, since I got it on sale. In general, oil change labor = $30, Filter = ~$7, synthetic was $30/ 5 qt, but you can get it normally on sale in Walmart/Amazon for $20/5 qt when you buy 2.
