After a $90 something general check today, they said the cabin filter was fine. Mom and I see a filthy cabin filter. Buyer beware. Update: old filter went out in this morning's trash so I can't show the owner, but I wouldn't have bought a new one if the old were fine, honest. Update 2: Jon worked with me to make it right and really cares about the customers' experience. Great customer service.

I've been a PDX Automotive customer for years. Their services are fairly priced. I have found them to be honest, both to tell me when I need to do something for my car and when I can wait to do something. Helping me prioritize maintenance is very valuable. Good people. Services: Electrical repair, Auto engine diagnostic, General repairs & maintenance

I just picked up my car from this mechanic not even 20 minutes ago and had to sit down to write a review immediately; PDX Automotive has provided me with some of the best customer care and mechanic work I've ever experienced in my 10 years of owning a car, and I can't wait to be a repeat customer in the future. I originally came in for an issue with my front left wheel, and they fixed that issue very quickly and called to inform me that it was ready for pickup.

On that call they also informed me of another service light that appeared on my dashboard, but didn't pressure me into allowing them to look into the issue - they simply wanted to inform me of the issue so I could keep an eye on it. In that call, I actually asked them to look into that service light if they had the time, and they were more than happy to do so.

They brought my car back into the shop and inevitably found a pretty big issue - turns out that service light was a symptom of my break light circuit being broken, so my break lights actually weren't working! They quoted me for the work and went ahead with the repair. 3 hours later I picked up my car with all issues fixed and the bill was exactly what I expected.

I'm very grateful for their professionalism, timelines, and consideration when it came to keeping the agreed upon quote. They even took me on a test drive 2 weeks before my appointment to ensure that my car was drive-able before my actual appointment day came! I love that they cared enough to make sure I was safe before I was physically able to bring the car in.

In the end, their receipt was itemized and understandable and exactly what we had agreed upon. I didn't once feel unsafe or that I was being taken advantage of, even though I came to the shop as a lone female. I'll highly recommend this team to my family and friends and can't wait until I get to hire this crew again for future maintenance.

I was given the runaround by different repair shop for my failed DEQ code, where they charged me $1000+ to "fix" it and still ended up driving off their lot with the check light still on. Needless to say, I was fatigued and wary. but then I found this place! The drop off was super simple, fast, and the folks at the desk were quick and professional. AND they didn't try to have me pay more/ get non-pressing work done!

After all was said and done, my car just needed a new hose, but it was well worth the diagnostics test and (very minimal) hose costs to finally get the issue resolved. I can't recommend PDX Automotive enough as a young, older-car owner with little car knowledge. They certainly felt honest and like they wouldn't "fool" you. I'll definitely be coming back for other car needs in the future!

Expensive: I took my 4 Runner in to PDX for its usual 30,000 mile maintenance since my previous mechanic retired. They replaced the air filter, changed my oil (with oil I supplied), flushed and replaced the antifreeze, did an inspection and gave me estimates. The bill came to $329.65. This is the fist time in my life that I was billed for an inspection and estimate, so I was unpleasantly surprised. Also, I found their estimates to be expensive.

For example. PDX wanted $1,004.30 to replace the front brakes & calipers (yes, just the FRONT brakes) Les Schwab did this job (yes including replacing the calipers) for $589.97. In my world, that's a lot of money.

I took in my Corolla a couple weeks ago and was very pleased with the work. Pricing is competitive, very knowledgeable staff. They call you and give you a run down of what needs fixed and what can wait so you're able to afford the work. Very professional and I love that they don't talk down to me or talk over me like I have experience with other places.

So I brought in my friends car, today because I told her how happy I was and how smooth my car runs now and she's happy with the work and the price as well. So you've gained 2 new customers!

I have been a customer at PDX Automotive for decades, and I've been completely satisfied with their work. Any time I've needed a special request, or they have been confronted with an issue with any work that they've done, it has been resolved promptly. When arriving, you are met with politeness and efficiency. I highly recommend PDX Automotive for your car care needs, and I tell everyone I know that this is the case - always.

Their motto is "Mechanics with a conscience." and they uphold it in every meaning of the phrase. We recently took in our 2016 Subaru Outback to have the axles replaced. The initial repair left the car with a new vibration that was not there before the service. I spoke with the owner, John, about it and he diagnosed the problem as a product with the aftermarket parts and wanted to correct the issue.

They replaced the aftermarket axles with the OEM axles and only charged me the difference in cost of parts. Vibration gone and problem solved! These guys came highly recommended by a neighbor who has used them for 30+ years and I would recommend them just the same. Thank you John and Todd!

I never thought I'd feel a fondness for an automotive repair shop, but here we are. I love this place. I know nothing about cars and these folks really walk you through what's going on with your car and what the best thing to do is. I was going on a long trip and they recommended I check my oil fairly frequently. I, of course didn't know how to do that, and they graciously showed me how without the slightest bit of judgement. Angels. I think you should take your car here.

Amazing and affordable! I took my Mustang in to get a malfunctioning wiper motor fixed and they checked it out, gave me a quote, AND got the work done all in one day. The man who helped me was super friendly as well. I will definitely be returning for any future work I have done on my vehicle! Thank you guys so much!

I took my Subaru in late and used the night drop, which was very handy and clearly marked. I felt secure leaving my keys and was told the next day that my car would be looked at as soon as that afternoon despite how busy they were. My car repairs were done in two days and I drove away with a new clutch and a smooth drive. The amount I paid ended up being slightly less than I was quoted which was nice, though the work was worth every penny.

The customer service was exceptional and everyone was very friendly and appreciative of my business. I would very much recommend this shop to anyone looking for an honest mechanic at a good price. So so happy I found them just down the street from my new neighborhood! So happy! Give them your business!

When the key icon stayed lit on my wife's 2016 Honda HR-V, she took it to PDX Automotive, our "regular" mechanic. By regular, I mean the mechanic within walking distance of our home, but we've only needed services about a half dozen times in the last ten years. The short story is this: every step of the way PDX attempted to help us find the easiest solution that would save us time & money.

Sometimes when you are dealing with experts (auto experts, computer experts, language experts, management experts) they will sometimes talk down to you and tell you what to do instead of telling you what you need to know. PDX was just the opposite - listening to our concerns and suggestions then answering our questions and working with us. Here's the fuller story: John said he could run a diagnostics on the starter mechanism, but maybe we would prefer to just change the batteries in the key fob to see if that really inexpensive option worked.

He didn't try to sell us on any services we might not need. Try this free option first was his recommendation. But after replacing the batteries in both fobs, the key icon remained lit after starting the car. A relative of mine had to have her starter button in her Honda replaced last year so I asked John to order a new starter. Within a few days the key icon no longer stayed lit. John still thought I should bring it in for a diagnostic, but he agreed to cancel the order for the starter.

I offered to pay a restocking fee or a fee for the fooling around with this, but John said that wasn't necessary. Three days later the Honda wouldn't start. The tow truck guy came out and gave me a jump and this time the car started right up and the icon didn't stay lit. But I'd had enough so I drove the car to PDX Automotive. In less than two days PDX had replaced the now dead battery and the starter (John's diagnostics confirmed it was broken). Good work PDX Automotive team.

I've had a couple of small repairs for PDX Automotive recently, and PDX is just as professional and responsible and timely with the small (under $50) jobs as they are when I have something major. It's great to know we have a place to take our cars (Honda and Kia) whenever we have a problem.

I'm a new transplant to Oregon. Brought my Wrangler in to get it to pass the DEQ by replacing catalytic converter. I also got tires rotated and oil change. The folks here took great care of me. My ride gave them some trouble due to a bunch of rust and probably caked dirt that delayed the work. They handled it well. Knowing I needed to have my vehicle back that day, they added another mechanic on the job to get me out on time while keeping the work quality. On top of that, customer service and communication was on point.

They made a mistake quoting me and 100% made it right. That's very rare these days and I'll be giving them another try next time I need work done on my car.

I've taken my car here twice and I feel like both times they've saved me money. Both repairs came out less than they quoted me originally on the phone and they're fast. The guy working the desk is also very friendly and respectful, even when I clearly have no idea what he's telling me about my car. I also want to add that they seem very honest and never try find additional things to fix. They just do what's needed and get you back on the road.

PDX Automotive is the only mechanic I trust with our cars. Over the years, I've never had to worry about them upselling or recommending unnecessary repairs. They are truly committed to customer service!

Honest, dependable, and friendly. What more could you ask for? We've been taking our cars to PDX Automotive for the past five years and have always been happy with the quality of their service and their prices. They do good work, and they complete the work when they say they will. If an unforeseen problem arises, they call you before they do anything else. I rely on them and trust them, which is a just about the best thing you can say about a shop that offers auto repair. Strong recommendation.

We recently brought our 1999 Toyota Corolla into their shop. The driver's door did not open from the inside. At first, they said that it would cost around $200 for a fix. After taking off the door panel, they said that the latch was broken and would cost $500. We took the car back and my husband who is an engineer decided to try to fix it himself.

What he discovered was that the latch wasn't broken at all, it just needed to be adjusted. We saved $500 by not letting PDX Automotive fix the door latch. We have been loyal customers for a long time but now we are going to look elsewhere for our car repair jobs. They are not only very expensive but they were dishonest by not telling us what the real problem was.

I've been going to PDX Automotive for over 15 years. I'm a single woman, so you know initially I wasn't expecting to be able to trust a mechanic, but now I totally trust and count on them. They've been maintaining my 2001 Toyota Corolla since the beginning and it's still running great. The service has been impeccable and John and Gerard are smart and so honest. And it's a green garage, which I totally appreciate.

Our family has not had great experiences with PDX Automotive. After spending thousands here, more than once they had missed minor details (bolts!) and forgot to put them back.something we believe professional techs do NOT forget! And for every thing they forgot to do (there were several), they always had an excuse, instead of apologizing. In return, they charged again for correcting their mistakes. Missing bolts can result in deaths! Do yourself a favor.do not go here. Auto Despair, not Repair!

Things at which PDX Automotive is really good: Very professional, estimates are accurate, quality of mechanics, doing what they say they will do (but nothing more.see below). I did generally trust them as mechanics. Things as which PDX Automotive is really bad: Informing people of potential maintenance issues. On multiple occasions I had my truck into the shop for repairs and was not informed of other issues in the same area that might need work. Example: Water pump replaced, and 2 days later the timing belt broke. Paid twice for them to take the front off of my engine.

They should have let me know it was time to service the timing belt when they replaced the water pump. I've found out from multiple other mechanics this would have been a standard courtesy. Also, they ALWAYS charge at least a $90 diagnostic fee, even if you walk in knowing exactly what the problem is. Expect to pay a lot for the work that is done, although I will admit it is usually done well.

Generally speaking, they seem pretty honest, but they do absolutely nothing more than the bare minimum to get your vehicle up and running again. If you want a mechanic that will not only fix your car right (which they do) but will also help you prevent further issues with your car (which they don't), look elsewhere.

They diagnosed my car with a broken head gasket and tried to charge me $2k. I took it elsewhere and it ended up only needing a new thermostat which cost me very little. Needless to say, I will NEVER take my car here again. Either these guys are crooks or don't know anything about cars.

I've been taking our cars here for service for about 4 years. The # 1 thing for me as far as automotive mechanic is TRUST, Trust that they won't overcharge or put in used parts in my car. I always felt at ease knowing these guys A-put in great replacement parts B-Honest about options C-Respects woman who bring in their cars. At the end of the day, my car always runs better and continues to. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is, they didn't install the breaks on my car correctly but, they did admit it and fixed it.

Normally I wrench my own cars, but when presented with a job too big for my garage, I gave these guys a try years after being recommended them by a pro fabricator. The last mechanic I tried had a problem with going on tangents; and every quote was an even $150. It took three calls just to deal with the issue I brought the car in for, and by then he only finished a driver side strut re-assembly.

Too much talking, not enough fixing! Now I have seen some horrors after doing post mechanic tear downs; used parts, reused bolts that shop manuals say to replace and even parts retrofitted from other vehicles. Historically, mechanics have accomplished all too amazing things on my rides. So my attitude has been for a decade or so that I could always do better.

Well these guys gave me back some mechanic faith. When I arrived at 8am the manager was giving the person on the phone all his consideration while a waited, the first positive sign. Then when he was done we discussed my concerns, he was open to using the parts I had bought for cheap (many shops play numbers with parts and time), and he even talked me out of some extra work that didn't make sense for a 100k+ car, a second positive sign. The work was as estimated, honest, and they used higher grade bolts than spec; Just how I would have done it. I like these guys and will be back when necessary.

Very happy with the service at PDX Automotive and super happy they're in my n'hood. Just had bad spark plugs replaced, cap and roter, throttle cable, etc. Basically a good tune up. They kept me informed of the timeline, were always available when i called for an update, and came in $100 under estimate. They also took the time to explain the possible causes of an oil leak that's been plaguing my car for years.

Most places have told me 'well it's just the oil pan gasket' but PDX Automotive got geekier - they said it could be this, it could be that, yes there's oil on the exterior of the oil pan but it could be this also. I really appreciate a more complete explanation. A few years ago, I stopped in with a friend who's rear window was stuck on her Subaru.

The mechanic, although busy, took 10 minutes and got the window unstuck, and wouldn't accept any payment. My friend took her car back for service later and was really happy with them - even tho she lived across town!
