Motor Works

I took my Ford Focus to Motor Works. Unfortunately the repairs cost more than the car was worth (it had 240k miles), so I ended up junking it, but I wanted to give Motor Works a shoutout. They shuttled me from the dealership to my home, and brought me back to get my car, which was super convenient. They were able to get us in pretty last minute, and they did a very thorough and great job checking my car out.

They didn't recommend any unnecessary repairs and for the work that was recommended, the pricing seemed reasonable. I'd definitely take my car to them again next time I need a mechanic.

I am not one to go out of my way to write a review. But I can't let someone else throw away their hard earned money like I did. I initially trusted this shop because of the reviews online and their 5 star rating. But on two different occasions Meghan had set a certain time for my car to be ready. The first time I missed work because she had ordered the wrong part.

Which was no big deal because we are all human, mistakes happen. This delay cost me money that I didn't get compensated for on their end. Recently I brought my car in to get it checked out again and after paying $500 and her promising it would be ready at 1:30pm, it was not ready until 5. I was also informed I would have to pay an additional $900 to fix the problem I originally thought we were already fixing.

Also may I add they had another customer complaining about a similar situation that I found myself in. I will no longer throw away my hard earned money to this business. After calling another auto shop, I realized she was over charging me $300 on the services she now said I needed to fix the problem.

They are caring, honest, about the several things that were wrong and went wrong during the repairs of my cat. They thoroughly checked my car out found out where the huge loud noise came from. They know their stuff. I didn't have a ride home when I had to leave the car at the shop. They offer a shuttle for the client back and forth, which I thought was great especially me being on disability and older woman.

They did not over charge me, they even gave me a discount very awesome. They give you a printout of everything that is wrong with the car so you can see all the issues. Their pricing is really fantastic I am going to continuously go to them with my car. You know I've been screwed from another dealership on my car in which they stole one of my cars and didn't do what they said and then going to other people for work on my car they really didn't know what they were doing.

So one I found this place Motor Works I was very impressed with them all the way around the ball board. Meghan and Jessica and Brooke were fantastic with everything that had to do with my car. So I would definitely tell everyone to go there I mean they're not gonna cheat you in no way. Everything's on the oven up with this company so I'm I'm really happy with them in every way and I know that if any of body who reads this and needs a really good place for their cars you're gonna love this place as well and the people that are there, they are just wonderful people

Thought this was a trustworthy place due to the positive reviews and handful of 5 star reviews. However, after dealing with them I would highly recommend NOT to bring your car here. Meghan (the main lady) will not be completely honest with you and I guarantee you'll have to make several trips to this shop as they do minimum service and never do all of the work.

I'll start with Meghan is awesome, I really like how Motor Works does their business. Fair prices and great work, the communication and description of services needed or being done is outstanding and much appreciated. I will definitely return whenever I need work done that I'm unable to do. Transfer case and ABS Issue that was solve and fixed. Thank you Motor Works Team.

Had a great experience. Brought in my car for multiple repairs and they were great with a detailed break down of work requested, work suggested, and upon pick up work completed all with fair and affordable quotes on it. Always stayed in communication which is a huge for me. Also awaited approval on all work to be done. Overall a very great and pleasant experience.

When I suddenly had a flat tire and the tow truck driver couldn't get the wheel off, he took us up the street to Motor Works. They were able to repair the spare tire and get the wheel changed. They also went the extra mile to rotate the tires since this whole time it had been snowing and wanted me to be better able to stay on the road. I loved their willingness to take care of such a small repair when they were obviously busy with their own customers. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Great communication! Very responsive, friendly, and professional in helping with my car repairs. I had access to repair notes, quotes, and status updates online through links they sent me via text, and Meghan was always available to discuss every time I called as well. Very satisfied with my experience and will use this shop again in the future!

Motor Works did a thorough inspection and provided detailed feedback (with pictures) which I greatly appreciated. I suspected worse issues than ended up being found, but luckily the technicians and other staff at Motor Works were able to resolve a coolant system issue that other shops have neglected to inspect and repair. The complimentary shuttle service was an aspect that left a very positive impression, and I was able to talk through repairs in sufficient detail with very knowledgeable front desk staff, Meghan really knows her stuff!

All in all, I had my thermostat replaced which is now successfully keeping my engine temperature stable and also fixed a relatively substantial oil leak by replacing the valve cover gasket and other small parts on my car. Other items were too costly for me to repair at the moment, and other parts needing replaced or cleaned (car battery, dirty engine air filter) I can do myself.

But luckily the complimentary full vehicle inspection provided me with a game plan for future repairs that I can budget for. Highly recommend and look forward to having repairs and routine maintenance done here in the future!

I love how they go over EVERYTHING with you. They provide pictures of your problem. They are honest and tell you what you need to do right away and what you can save up for. I appreciate that! It is difficult to find a shop that I can trust to work on my VW GTI, and I trust them with my car. great staff, and very quick turn around time. This was my first experience using MotorWorks. I appreciate how they took time to understand the issues I was having and to explain the issues they found in great detail. They seemed very busy, a little overwhelmed at drop off and at pick up so I felt a little rushed this being my first experience but overall they got the job done and the cost didn't break the bank.

New customer and they were able to get me in right away to address any issues. Great customer service and was able to make a follow up appointment the same week as the first appointment. Stay away from this shop! Insanely OVERPRICED! I had my car there for 4 days didn't get any phone calls or text about what's going on. Meghan lied that she did call me! I just wanted water pump gasket changed but the charged me $450 just for " looking at it". Never ever doing business with them. Brought my car to different shop got it back in 2 days. They charged me $150 just for putting a blown fuse. Garbage Service

They were great! Made things happen quickly and extremely helpful! They were able to get my brother and niece off the side of the road and to their office until a ride was there to pick them up, along w the towing or the car and diagnosis. Megan is awesome too by the way!

This is the best shop I've EVER been to. My headlights weren't working so I started calling around. Megan picked up and said she could get me in if I brought it over. They found I needed some new bulbs and also let me know my back wheel bearings were shot so we just fixed all of it! The best part was that I got the car back the same day! They're super nice people, very affordable, they even gave me a ride from the shop to my house after I dropped the car off! I would highly recommend to anyone needing repairs or maintenance.

My alternator decided to give up the ghost shortly after I arrived in DeKalb. I had driven past the shop earlier in the week and when I received a reference from a coworker, I called and found them to be courteous and helpful. I dropped my car off and they went about verifying the problem. They called me to let me know the extent of the repairs. needed.

I gave consent for repair and when I went to pickup my car at the end of the same workday, Will and the mechanic that serviced my car spent a generous amount of time discussing the repair with me. They also, in addition to my itemized bill, gave me a vehicle inspection report. I was impressed at the depth of information that a trained eye can deliver. I have always repaired my own vehicles, and I tend to be leery of letting others work on it. I have no such reservations about the crew at Motor Works! Thanks guys and gals!

Mark is a genius mechanic! Our 1971 VW Super Beetle was butchered by another shop and he saved it. He doesn't just "fix" problems, he solves them with creative solutions. He always takes the time to make improvements, like cleaning up messy and questionable wiring. His work on our carburetor was first class and ended up being the best parts of two different ones.

Also his communication is outstanding. We got weekly phone calls with updates whenever he had the car to work on. Prices are a fraction of what we paid the hack shop. Couldn't be happier with the service and we drive over an hour to get it, along with the peace of mind. Thanks!

What's not to recommend. Not only do they take great care of my vehicle, these wonderful people take the time to listen.and take care of me. Motor works is honestly the best place to take my car! They sure know what they're doing and super friendly! And they recently helped me out with my car's oil pan being damaged by Walmart in Plano. Fast and best quality work and definitely good prices! Definitely recommend!

Motor Works has consistently done quality work and treated me fairly for many years. Everyone you communicate with has lots of hands-on experience. You get options and priorities about what needs or has to get done. I highly recommend motor works.

If I review three times, can I give them 15 stars? Seriously, these people are superhuman. We completely rehabbed our 2000 SSEi at a garage in WA and a year later, we started having problems. Motorworks found metal shavings in the oil, among other horrible things that should not have happened in an overhauled $15,000 job. And before you get on me about spending $15k on a Bonneville. yeah, not the best decision, but I digress.

They took great care of Daisy and checked things we didn't expect just to make sure she was in good shape. They love superchargers, was the explanation. Well, here, take my supercharger then. Just keep doing what you're doing. We've since been back with our anti-climactic Ford Fusion and a flat tire, and still -- although undeniably not a supercharger -- took amazing care of Hypatia. Thorough, professional, passionate, affordable, friendly, knowledgeable. everything you want and need in auto service!

Went here to fix a few things that another shop (Midas) had failed to do. The staff was very friendly and was so helpful. Pricing was fair and they made the process so easy. We will definitely be coming back here!

I cannot say enough good things about Motor Works in DeKalb! My car has over 200,000 miles on it. Driving in ice this week caused some damage to my wheels. They fixed the issue in a day and for a reasonable amount of money. They called me when they said they would to talk to me. (Unheard of for a service-related business!) They pointed out a couple other things but said, "You May notice these other symptoms. Here's what's causing that.

They are not safety issues, so you don't need to fix these unless they're driving you crazy." AND, it was -11 degrees when I went to pick up my car, and they had it running when I arrived so my babies wouldn't be freezing. They're honest and kind. They won my business for life.

I wish I could give this shop a lower rating. They are very overpriced, slow, dishonest, and rude. Do not take your car here. They will rip you off. They will replace things that don't need to be replaced and it will take longer than they said and it will cost more than they said. I couldn't have picked a worse shop. Look elsewhere. They charge dealership prices for their parts but with worse quality.

Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, very good at explaining things, courtesy pickup, reasonable rate, no charge for inspection/scan/look over. (Most places will charge you an hour of labor just to hook up a professional scanner.) They charge a solid 20 bucks for an oil change! This tripped me out, I've been spending a fortune on oil changes, wow.

Everything they have quoted me has been far beyond reasonable. They made my truck run much better made some misc fixes and gave a very good rundown of what I may want to do to it. No persistent insisting on every kind of service they offer like some places, they are really about helping you and your vehicle. I have some automotive knowledge, and have overheard many of there conversations, and let me tell you, they know what they are talking about and they won't rip you off. Also, they are very entertaining to listen to, haha.

Very sociable and fun. I dare you to find a better place to bring your car. Once again, I was very happy about the bill and got my better running truck back! Fantastic! THIS is the place to go.

I gave 5 stars, only because giving ten was not an option. When i read the other reviews here, i was utterly amazed. I started to wonder if there was another motor works in Dekalb that these people had problems with. I thought this because my experience with Motor Works and every staff member i dealt with was unlike any i have ever had. Never in all my 57 years have i felt like a shop was more concerned with getting me home versus their bottom line.

I was on a cross country trip from California to New York, and was on the return trip home when I broke down in Dekalb Illinois. AAA towed my car to Motor Works. My funds were extremely limited, having just enough for the gas to get home. So when the estimate of repairs came in, totaling just over what i had. Well lets just say that depression sat in.

As fair and reasonable the estimate was. I simply did not have the funds to cover it AND make it home. I had no choice but to explain my dilemma to Leslie the service writer, and Mark Huff the Master Mechanic., to see if something can be done. I was at the mercy of these two individuals. I was completely and utterly humbled when Mark came up with a way to get me back to California safely, at a minimal cost. Leslie rewrote the estimate, to which i actually smiled again.

I was completely taken aside by the kindness and sincere regard for my situation, shown to me by Mark and Leslie. I truely do not know how i can quite say thank you enough. To leslie. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. To Mr Mark Huff (Motor Works masterful gentle giant). I again say. WE ARE NOT WORTHY! I can honestly say that i am looking forward to my next breakdown. Well. Sort of. Don't get your car done here! I stress this because they will keep your car for weeks and not update you about it. They will also break stuff on your car just to charge more money. My estimation went from 100 dollars to 600 because they broke off a bolt in my car. I will never go to them again. I had to keep calling them until the point of making a visit not knowing if my car was done or not. Not to mention they had it for it a week And still was not done. They are ridiculous!

My car died on me in April 2013 and I had it towed here to get it fixed. They put in a brand new alternator with a new battery and I'm now having to get a another new alternator and battery 2.5 years later. Didn't last very long.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME! Weird to say about an auto repair shop, right? Maybe, but when I found myself in an emergency situation very far from my actual home, Marty and Leslie treated me like their own family. I had just loaded up everything I own from a storage unit in Chicago and was driving home to California when I my rental car broke down just outside of Aurora, IL.

I called AAA from the busy shoulder of 80 West and they contacted Motor Works to let them know I needed a tow. Leslie then called me herself just to check up on me and make sure I was safe. Not comfortable with leaving me there alone for the hour long wait for the tow truck, she had a quick talk with the tow truck driver and with Marty (the owner of Motor Works) and arranged a plan to get me off the side of the road.

She told me to look out for Marty, who was on his way to pick me up himself. I can honestly say I've never encountered a single auto repair shop in California that would go to such great lengths to look out for a stranded motorist. But Leslie knew I was far from home and jumped right into action. After arranging for the repairs to be done, Marty then arranged a room for me at a nearby hotel, dropped me off for the night and picked me up the next day when the repairs were done. Leslie stayed in contact at all times, keeping me updated on the repairs.

Also - I think it's important to note - at no time did any of them give me a hard time for my dumb mistake, from which anybody in the automotive industry would have a difficult time withholding. See, the vehicle and the gas pump were a little bit foreign to me and in my road weariness, I accidentally put diesel fuel in a Dodge Grand Caravan. (I know, I know.) But their awesome mechanic figured out a way to fix my error without removing the gas tank to dump it.

They came in $150 under their estimate (a HUGE relief at such a time) and I was on the road again less than 24 hours after Leslie first answered my distress call. My family and I cannot thank you all enough for taking care of me in a time of great vulnerability and need. If any of the Motor Works family are ever in Sacramento, you are welcome in our home any time! THANK YOU!

I brought my car her for repairs and they have been so great with me and my family. Since the car needed quite a few repairs, they staggered the repairs so that absolutely necessary repairs to get the car running were completed first. They have been helpful and honest the entire way through and I appreciate that.

Be very careful with these people and get second opinions often. They will milk your car for many problems and keep suggesting repairs you either do not need or "fixes" that are not typical. The main concern with my experience is the fact that their customer service is non-existent when trying to communicate with them over the phone. Read Yelp reviews for a more accurate rating of this shop, they are not as favorable.

If you have a quick repair or need an oil change, you can do worse than this place. If you have major or complicated problems, take your vehicle to a shop with more diagnostic experience.

Ok so i had a bad experience with this place. at first it seemed like a great place, but it turned out to be bad. Ok so my car was having trouble with the steering and I brought it to the merlin, they said I needed a new power steering pump and that it would take a day to order and be really expensive. The price seemed way too steep and I brought my car here.

It turns out that I did not need a new pump but 1 of the joints in the steering was bad. So I had it fixed which took a lot longer then they said. Anyway it seemed to work fine, but then I noticed a little while later the steering was acted weird again but in a different way, like pulling to one side then the other. I was not in dekalb anymore so I brought it to a place my parents like. well it turns out the steering rod they used was either the wrong part or not installed correctly and they would not let me drive with out it repaired since there was a possibility that I could turn the wheel but the car could go straight. Also, the bad repair damaged my steering gear, and the estimate for the total repair was $1000.

I haven't gotten my car fixed here yet.saving up for it. I was referred by someone I work with, he said they will tell you like it is and not sugar coat things like other places do. I had them do a test drive and a general look over of my car and within 24hrs they told me what was wrong and cost. Mind you I went to another mechanic first in the area and had him look at my car fix a problem, still had an issue, took it back again me to fix other things.

Finally Motor Works told me what the problem is and what they suggested totally made sense considering I know nothing about cars yet could tell something was wrong with my car.
