Young Automotive opened in Sturgeon Bay in 1969 originally founded as Phil Young Automotive. Phil Young, my father, started his business in Chicago in 1966. A true car lover and a hands-on technician, Phil had worked in the automotive industry for over 9 years before opening up in Sturgeon Bay. In 2002 I, Fred Young, purchased the family business and changed the name to Young Automotive, Inc.
We work on all makes and models of vehicles, with the exception of Jaguar, Land Rover, Corvette, Porsche, and other exotic brands (Lotus, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, etc), stolen-recovery vehicles, Motorhomes, and vehicles with modifications (aftermarket suspensions, exhausts, ECM tunes, performance chips, etc).
It gets good and cold in Sturgeon Bay, WI, and if you've ever walked out to the car in the morning to discover your vehicle's heater isn't working, you know what a pain that can be. You can fiddle with the dials and knobs all you want, but either the heater isn't blowing at all, or it isn't blowing as hot as it once did.
The alignment of your wheels may not be something you think about on a regular basis, but your wheel alignment plays a major role in your fuel efficiency, handling, and safety, as well as the lifespan of your tires. And when your wheels are out of alignment, it is something you want to have addressed as soon as possible, but not every mechanic has the equipment, experience, or expertise to give your wheels the attention they need.

I had a noise in my wife's car that I had been ignoring until it was too late and needed a wheel bearing repair. Nick squeezed me in, sent me a estimate for approval and followed up with a call. Didi the service as promised, when promised, for the price quoted and had me back on the road when they said they would. Nice to know I have a great Mechanic in Door County too! Tim

I really don't like to leave negative reviews for small businesses like this, but this place tried to scam me out of over $3000. I needed to get in to get my timing belt changed. I dropped my car off and had an estimate of around $1000. It was a little more than a different place around Sturg, but I was happy to pay the extra to get in quicker. They also offered a free loaner which was nice.
Later that day I got a message saying that all of my head gaskets needed to be replaced because my car was leaking a lot of oil (it literally said it was a 10/10 emergency), and I had been sent a new "estimate" that was $4000. I was shocked so I gave them a call. I told them that I had noticed any oil leak and that when I last checked my oil it hadn't lost any oil.
The mechanic said that it was so much that I must have added at least a quart (which I certainly did not). I said that I will have someone else look at it, but I am happy to just have the belts changed that we agreed upon, they said they couldn't ensure the quality of their work because my car was in such bad shape. At that point I got in the loaner and drove straight back to get my car.
I was finally able to get into a different local mechanic. They did my timing belt and a different belt for much cheaper than Young's and seemingly did a great job. When I mentioned my head gaskets or leaking oil, they seemed puzzled since they hadn't seen anything at all. At best, Young's made a mistake and got my car confused with another vehicle. At worst, they are predatory. I will say that the staff was all very nice, but unfortunately I will never use Young's again.

We needed to have a remanufactured transfer case and transfer case motor replaced in a Chevy Tahoe. We worked with Nick who is an expert service advisor at Young Automotive. The entire process was professional, seamless and the service was excellent! I've known the owner, Fred Young for +40 years. Young Automotive was able to fit me in during my travels to Door County, was able to diagnose and fix the issue with my car quickly, doing so professionally, communicating very well, and being very friendly as well. I would highly recommend Young to folks who have a second home in Door County. You drop your car off and they do what they need to do. They have rentals on hand so you don't have any down time in Door County. Great workmanship and just a great experience all around. (Try doing that in Chicago) Service: Tyres

The best! I was super impressed by how conscientious they were. On two different occasions, they saved me a ton of money by offering to repair rather than immediately replace components on my truck. I highly recommend this auto repair shop! Fred at Young Automotive is definitely raising the standard for auto repair work. Hands down the best communication I've ever experienced, friendly and precise. Most auto garages you enter into is a grimy little office where you stand there ignored for 30 minutes just to have a crabby mechanic tell you they are too busy. very common in Door county.
The work isn't super cheap but it's very thorough and well done. My parents only use Young Auto for all their vehicles as well. I think the entire Young Auto team does an awesome job but it makes sense when you have great leadership. Thanks Fred!

Me and my friend are beyond grateful to the guys who work here. We were vacationing in Door County on September 1, 2021, and were already on the way back home when another driver stopped us and told that our break lights were all out. We had no idea what we could do at 3:30 pm, when we had to drive back home to Chicago, for four hours. Part of our way would be in the dark which makes driving without break lights very dangerous. Luckily we googled and found this place. Frank, who picked up the phone, told us that mechanic would be leaving in half an hour, and we yet had 10 min to drive there. Nevertheless, he encouraged us to come over, which we did.
All the guys working there made us feel like at home, diagnosed the situation in a very calm manner, figured out what needed to be done, and fixed all three break bulbs in under 30 min! We are so grateful to this place. Will keep it in our contacts now, for ourselves and any friends traveling to Door County. Very reliable, knowledgeable and with a lot of human touch. Thank you guys!

It was such a pleasure to have the folks at Young Automotive take care of our Honda. We were up in Door County on vacation and one brake started grinding. I called and got the last appointment in the entire peninsula for the week, and I'm so glad I did. Nick was helpful and professional and kind and made me feel like I had been taking my car there forever.
He had the mechanics prepared and got the car diagnosed and moving. They gave me a free loaner car for the day, as well. Fred, the owner, chatted with me as I was waiting for the Dx, and I also met his dog, who comes to work as well. The experience was pleasant, professional, and smooth.
