We started going to Import Doctors in 2002 because we wanted to find a reliable garage to take our family cars to. We really don't know much about cars and have no desire to. What we were looking for is someone that we could trust when we had a car problem. We had been to many different places that wanted to make as much money as possible with no regard to cost or time. We work out of the area and our son goes to school out of the area, so to have a car down is not easy to work around. Import Doctors has been great.

First off the owner is a kind person and I have taken several cars for repair over the past 10 years but the the latest repair was not completed to standard and could have caused a terrible accident. We had a full service including brakes. Unfortunately, Bob (at his own admission ) got distracted and didn't tighten the lug nuts fully so upon driving our car wheels began to come off luckily I was on a local road not the freeway but it was a mess.
Other drivers pulled over to help and then local police showed up to help and we had to have the car towed and the car inspected and lug tighten at another repair facility. I understand we can all make mistakes but not one that could cause severe injury. I did contacted Bob and upon some discussion I was refunded.

Excellent service. This shop is a true gem. My only complaint is the lack of properly accepting the Bosch credit card. I found this shop by searching my Bosch service center locator and when it came time to pay I was told "these cards never work". I was banking on getting 6 months of interest free payments and instead I had to pay it all up front.
They asked me to let them know in advance next time so we can get it working before hand but my thoughts are that if you're going to be a Bosch service center, the payment system should already be tried and tested.

My husband is the "mechanic" in the family of 2 each Volvos and 1 Subaru. Whenever he gets stuck or the repair requires more equipment than we have at home, our vehicles are taken to Import Doctors. We tend to keep our vehicles rather than treat them like Dixie cups. Maintenance and repairs are important to us. Bob provides an estimate including time to repair and remains a very honest and well experienced owner.
He also will tell you when a repair or maintenance should be done now or perhaps in the near future. Having lost my mechanic in January 2014, I trust Bob will my automobiles.

Import Doctors is fantastic! I recently acquired a 1985 Nissan 300ZX. Not in bad shape but needed some TLC and sprucing up. I took it to various shops, most of them hemmed and hawed and gave me outrageous quotes for simple tasks, it was clear they didn't want the job. Bob at Import Doctors stepped right up, gave me fair quotes, and did excellent quality work. Plus, Bob and his staff are friendly, the facility is clean and neat, and overall a very enjoyable customer experience. I also have a 2005 Outback, Bob and Import Doctors will be my go-to guys for all my mechanical work going forward.

One of my friends worked here for a while. He did an excellent job fixing a blown head gasket for me. He left Import Doctors several years ago, and I keep coming back because they maintain just an excellent standard of service. Every time jiffy lube breaks my care these guys help me fix it. I highly recommenced Import Doctors.

Bob is really trustworthy. He told us parts and labor on an engine block issue we had would be in the low hundreds of dollars and even said we don't need it unless we want to fix a "cosmetic" issue. We had previously been to the Volvo dealership who told us that they recommended we might want to replace the entire engine for about $4,000. We now trust Bob and take all our cars to hi.

I really like Bob and his wife, this shop DOES quality work. But personally, this place really isn't worth it for ME. They worked with me because I was low on cash, and we came to an agreement. Later, after going to automotive school I had enough knowledge to know how much I was actually paying for some of the jobs performed on my vehicles. My assessment: This place is for San Ramon people who have really expensive cars and don't mind forking out extra money for them. It's not for people like myself, with an 8 thousand dollar mustang that needs a new bushing. Import Doctors rates are pretty much equivalent to that of a dealership.
They go on a per hour labor rate (which is high) and they use a program called ALLDATA that gives rough time estimates for each job and instructions how to execute them. More times than not, the time to complete a job is less than what the program estimates. I've worked with this program frequently. Also, I was EXTREMELY disappointed when one of his mechanics curb rashed one of my OEM Saleen wheels on my mustang right in front of me.
It was bad. Those wheels cost about 300 each from the factory. The kid only knocked off like $40 off the bill. Bob was not there at the time. He did NOT offer to have it fixed. If he did, I would have HAD it fixed and not taken the discount. I tried to find the best deal to repair and respray the wheel and the lowest estimate I got was for 100 dollars.
I decided to just eat that one and go elsewhere. I'd rate Bob's automotive knowledge 10/10 and again, the quality of work is superb. I believe they are honest people. But, there are many other places I can get the same quality of work done for about half the price if I can't do it myself. So, logistically speaking it makes perfect sense to pursue what the best for me. I think my "Meh, I've experienced better" rating is a fair and accurate description for this place.

First I must say, Bob is fantastic - but the kid he hired is a moron (I forget his name, unfortunately). I'll never go back. My car was making an atrocious noise, so I took it in for an evaluation, after being pleased with Bob's service for over a year. When I came back to retrieve my car, this kid said he couldn't figure out what the noise was, which was surprising since it was very obvious and LOUD.
The kid said "sorry". I was confused but figured I'd let it go because I trust Bob's operation. Two days later, the noise was still there and complete horrendous. to the point it was not to be ignored. I went to a different place and came to find out the AXLE was so worn it was about to break. This other place showed me underneath the car and said there's no way any mechanic with any sort of brain could have missed it.
He replaced it under my watch, then handed me the axle and encouraged me to show it to my mechanic (Bob's kid) to see his reaction. I felt bad doing so, but being the skeptic I am, I took the part with me and have received 3 other confirmations, from completely unbiased mechanic, that under no circumstances would this have been missed had the mechanic at Bob's gone under my car to actually look. I've never written a Yelp review, but felt compelled to do so. This is unacceptable.

I've been going to a dealership to get my car serviced since I purchased it (dumb, I know). Every time I left I felt like I paid a lot of money for not a lot of service. They "checked" a lot of stuff on my car, but what did they actually do? I didn't feel that way when I left Import Doctors. Bob explained what was wrong (some of it went over my head, but I have to appreciate the fact that he tried).
I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of for the first time since I've purchased my car. The owner's were very friendly and accommodating. They were also able to fit me in fairly quickly, gave me a ride to work and back to the shop, and completed the work in a timely manner. I'll definitely be going here from now on.
