Dave's Garage was founded in 1995 as an alternative to the dealership service experience. They built their reputation on trust and were able to offer a more detailed and personal experience. In 2014 Craig Olvey and Jamie Laferriere were talking with the original Dave and he expressed his desire to spend less time working and pursue his other passions in life.
Our mission is to provide you with the best possible quality and service. We achieve this by creating a partnership with you based on trust, communication and integrity. We perform preventative maintenance and diagnose repairs for most Asian, European, Hybrid and domestic vehicles. Our techs are highly trained and experienced professionals.
Dave's Garage was founded in the spring of 1995. Since it was founded, we have specialized in Traverse City auto repair! The first shop was located behind Wares Auto Sales. It was one garage bay and a small desk for writing up service tickets. Eventually the garage got so busy that Wares gave an ultimatum and in 1996 we moved to our current location on Hastings Street.
The disinfectant spray is called Transform and kills 99% of bacteria in cars. Essential healthcare workers include: nurses, doctors, medical technicians, police and firefighters. Application of the disinfectant takes a few minutes and is effective immediately. Healthcare workers will just need to call either location of Dave's Garage to set an appointment.

They did a pretty good job installing parts on to my vehicle, but the car was inoperable so they were required to push the vehicle in the shop when I picked up the car none of the fluids had been replaced after the job thus meaning oil and coolant and when I parked it at home after a day of it not working so we'll due to the lack of fluid change, it had a huge dent in the trunk and another on the top of the deck lid. I'd recommend them for certain jobs as in maintenance but not anything bigger.

First day of our four day vacation we experienced car trouble. It was Sunday driving up from downstate. We came limping into Traverse City with a failing alternator in our 15 year old Honda Element. Three miles out of town the car died. After reading reviews, we had the car towed to Dave's Garage, slept in the back of the car and met with Heather in reception when the doors opened.
We explained that we were stuck with no transportation--no rental cars were available anywhere. Although they were scheduling three weeks out, they took us in on an emergency basis. While we were waiting for the repair, they shuttled us into town where we ate and went down to the shore. When the repair was complete, they shuttled us back to Dave's Garage. Fabulous! These are nice people, great service, excellent work. Thanks all!

I live down state right outside of Detroit. I was in Traverse City for the week and my car broke down. LONG STORY SHORT, I needed a new radiator. The receptionists were AMAZING, and got me a really quick appointment. I felt like the staff was so trustworthy. They knew I was vulnerable, 4 hours from home, with a non working vehicle, but I NEVER felt taken advantage of!
Everything was thoroughly explained to me, and all the prices were very clear. They fixed my car in a day, and the price was extremely fair! BTW I drive a Jeep Wrangler, so don't think this garage is only for foreign cars. Can't recommend this place enough!

Thank you Jamie for your superior service. Our son is working in TC for the summer. A yellow check engine light came on in his Wrangler. Needed to know if it was safe for him to drive to Faster Horses and Jamie diagnosed immediately and said the auto was ok to drive It was a code that Jeep had to update. I knew my son could drive the distance safely. THANKS GUYS!

I have to say, I'm impressed. I recently had a brake line rupture, which left me with no brakes while driving. I called and talked to Craig about my predicament. He told me I could bring it in right away and they would get to it as soon as they could. Within an hour or so I received a call from Jamie, he was polite and professional. He gave me a quote and told me he would work on my car the rest of the night.
I was told to expect my car by 10am the next day, but Jamie ended up calling me at 9am to tell me it was done. It was a little more than I expected ($485 for brake line fabrication) but I was happy with the service and the priority they gave me.

My car was leaking some fluid and before we made the drive back to southeastern Michigan we thought we should check it out. We called first and went to Dave's Garage and a very help service person (John?) came out and check everything under the hood. We didn't have to wait at all and he didn't charge us. He also cleaned off the iced up wipers and asked if he could do anything else for us.
If we lived in the area it would be our place to take our car for repair. It was just so refreshing to have someone who didn't feel put out for helping a customer in a hurry to get back home for Christmas.
