Both my brake lights were out and I had the car seen at two other shops. The other shops will remain unnamed because this post is not about bashing. The first shop did a diagnostic on the electrical system and recommended a brake switch. That did not fix the problem, so I fired him before he had the chance to do guess mechanic work, which would have cost me more in the long run.

The second place could not pinpoint the problem but he suggested several remedies and seemed to be in a rush to get me out of the shop after a two week wait for an appointment. I left that shop disappointed and confused as to why are these establishments are getting such high ratings. I called Mike at Capitol Mechanics an he told me to come by in the morning but could not promise quick service which was understandable.

When I arrived at first I was skeptical if they could fix my issue because of the way the shop looked. NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER! Mike greeted me and was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. He told his tech what the issue was and the technician started right away and within 10 min found the problem! He explained what he did and told me it was an unplugged trunk sensor.

He plugged the sensor back in and presto, the brake LED was on! I do apologize for not remembering the technicians name. Most of the praise gets thrown on the managers of the shop. I tries to leave a tip for the technician and mike told me it was not necessary! He explained why he follows this policy and only accepted my payment. Mike's wife was very pleasant as well.

The only thing I see that needs attention is the lack of staff. I only saw the one tech. I should have asked if he was the only tech there. A wonderful experience is what you get from a mom and pop establishment like Capitol Mechanics.

Trust. the number one issue to consider when choosing a mechanic. Mike and his staff have worked my Saab(s), Volvo and Alfa through the years and haven't let me down. They take their time to check for the problem, give you a great look at the potential concerns. including a walk-thru. Once you've identified the issue you need fixed, it get's fixed.

Most importantly, they will not make the fix without your understanding and approval and an accurate price point. That's where the trust comes into the process and it means so much. Thank you Tina and Michael.

My Subaru has been mostly trouble free while I've owned her but recently started making a noise that I couldn't figure out what was causing it. I've driven by Capitol Mechanics before and after noting the reviews, took her in. Mike and his team found the cause and got her running like new in one day. Pricing was fair and reasonable even though I'd never been there before. Highly recommended, I'll be going back to them for my next service.

My friend and I stopped here after the boat and trailer we recently purchased had trailer problems. Jason was very helpful, and who worked hard to get us back on the road. The team fabricated a part we needed in their on-site machine shop, and took care of us all the way through. We were very happy with the service, knowledge, and capabilities of the team. We were lucky to pull into their shop.

Capital Mechincs is hands down the most honest, knowledgeable, and capable mechanics I have ever used. All of my vehicles go to Capital. They recently did an engine swap for me, not only for dirt cheap but they did a tremendous job. Not only did they install the engine without a hiccup they also got my heated seat to work and my Bluetooth radio working again. The best part is, they didn't charge me a dime to fix the radio or seat warmer! I would encourage everyone to bring thier car there. Foreign or Domestic.

Love this place. They can fix anything pertaining to a vehicle. Before you buy your next vehicle, bring it to these guys and let them go through your vehicle from top to bottom. When they are done you will know if your car is a lemon today, tomorrow, or down the road. Capitol Mechanics will give you the peace of mind in purchasing your next vehicle from any dealership.

I want to love these guys because the reviews were so spectacular, but I can't. I went in for an inspection months ago and not a single person was wearing a mask, not even in my car! I was terrified and sanitized my car thoroughly afterwards. All they had was hand sanitizer at the front. They even had a coffee machine and water cooler available which is also not sanitary right now. I thought the inspection was fine, but barely a month later, I found out I had frozen calipers from another shop. My car shouldn't have passed inspection.

Very fast service, I contacted C.M. to have a pre-purchase car inspection carried out on a high end second hand car the following day. Their price for service was very reasonable, also gave me a AAA discount. I got good insight into the car I was considering buying, the most important part was talking with them post inspection along with the report. They just saved me a lot of money. Definitely recommend again for pre-purchase inspection.

I bring vehicles from my body shop to Mike and his team at Capital Mechanics when they have engine issues. I used him because I was referred to him from a networking group our business belongs to. He is awesome at what he does and I am beyond happy with the work he has done for me. Last time I had a vehicle at Capital Mechanics It needed a new engine and we got the car back in less then a week.

There was a check engine light on and so we sent it back to Mike. He looked it over and could not figure out why we were getting a timing code. We sent it to the dealership and after 4 days they figured out the motor was a different motor then the vehicle was supposed to have. I guess a slight variation in the model was causing an issue. We found out that the salvage yard that Mike bought the used engine from had labeled their part wrong and that is why we were having this problem. Mike paid for everything at the dealer and towed the car back to his shop.

He forced the yard to take the engine back and give him the right one and after a couple days he had the car back to me. My customer who had to endure this process was super happy. Capital Mechanics went beyond what most other shops would have done and I feel great bringing my cars to Mike whenever I need anything. It says a lot about a business when they stand behind their work.

Thank you Mike for being such a great guy and running a business that does the right thing for it's customers! I will be referring as many people as I can to Capital Mechanics!

Great place! They just fixed my Mercedes in 1 day and I got to use a loaner car which was awesome! Another place I had taken my car in Green Island apparently could not even hear the very loud noises it was making because then Robert's Auto would have had to pay for it under the warranty. Very nice people as well. Will use them for all my repairs and maintenance!

Brought my 2009 Honda Accord here after 3 other mechanics could not diagnose the problem. An issue with the power steering system was diagnosed and repaired in a matter of hours. My car is back to perfect! They were very professional and thorough and listened to my concerns. Capitol mechanics were honest and very straight forward. Great price.and they gave me a loaner while my car was in the shop! Michael is a very knowledgeable engineer and I will never take my car anywhere else! Best mechanic in the state.

I love this shop. They are so honest and do very good work. I would recommend this shop to anyone especially people who have foreign cars. They ate very knowledgeable.

I had been driving by this shop for years, had never went in. Recently I purchased a 1967 Mustang GTA S-code. Cosmetically it was perfect. It needed some work though to bring it to the next level with regards to maintenance. I stopped in and met Mike and his wife. They gave me a tour of the facility where I saw other high end classics that they were working on.

I developed a real comfort level with Mike and decided to give him the job to help me finish the car. What a great decision! From the onset, Mike was nothing but honest and reputable. He told me from the beginning that if I wanted this car in a month, he was not the right man for the job. I told him to take all the time he needed, just do it right.

Well after 4 months I received a call from Mike. The Stang was completed and ready to go home! When I got my bill for services I was surprised to no end! The bill was less than I budgeted for, and nothing was missed! Mike, thank you for such a fine job! I haven't put 10 miles on it since you gave her back to me, but I am happy with what you did! I will be back with my other vehicles as well! Ed

I have taken my car to Capitol Mechanics for years, since I read that they were recommended by AAA and the Better Business Bureau, and they are the best auto repair for miles around. I trust them completely and when they have to keep my car overnight for repairs, they do provide a loaner car free of charge, until the car is repaired. Capitol Mechanics is the best and they can be relied on to provide grade A+ service. They are outstanding in auto repair and the owners are very nice people.

I have brought my older BMW to Capitol Mechanics several times over the past couple years, usually for issues and not for general maintenance. Each time Mike, the owner, has taken the time to talk about what they've found as the issue and what options there are for repair. The mechanics there do really good work too - Mike and his team know how to work on older cars and the complications they can sometimes have.

I highly recommend at least checking this place out - I was referred here by a friend and it's the only place I'll go in the Capital Region. I live 20 min. away and it's worth it.

They did good prepurchase inspection on a used BMW and uncovered hidden bodywork

Love this place. Mike is a real engineer owning this place. I like how knowledgeable he is and how he said:"we don't discriminate cars here." I have been to many shops trying to get my Mini Cooper fixed but they all rejected me by the reason that they don't fix MINIs there. After talking to Mike I have to say he's real smart and professional. He's even nice enough to give me a ride back to RPI. Inspiring to talk to him.

Professional servicing of foreign cars from people who have a genuine interest in the upkeep of customers' vehicles. They never try to tack on additional services to a visit. Also, the complementary loaners are a great convenience! I plan on getting my car regularly serviced by them.
